Course Description
The University of Minnesota has provided training for the wood drying industry since 1978 and has trained approximately 750 individuals in the basics of kiln drying lumber. The course emphasizes conventional drying of hardwood species, however, other equipment and procedures will be discussed. (Facilities on site include dehumidification and conventional steam heated kilns.) Instruction will be provided by way of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on kiln drying experience with ample time reserved for group discussion as well as individual consultation.
Who Should Attend
Kiln operators, supervisors and others in the wood-using industry desiring to learn more about basic kiln operation and wood moisture relations. The course is also recommended for people/companies not currently drying wood who would like to start a kiln business or are considering construction of a small kiln for personal use. No previous training or experience is necessary.
