AF&PA Names Executive Directors
for Strategic Communications, Recovered Fiber

WASHINGTON, DC – The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) today announced the addition of two senior professionals: Chuck Fuqua as Executive Director, Strategic Communications, and Brian Hawkinson as Executive Director, Recovered Fiber.  Fuqua will be responsible for developing and implementing AF&PA’s advocacy communications strategy and managing media relations.  Hawkinson will lead the development and implementation of goals, policies and programs that support a continuing, affordable supply of recovered fiber.

“We’re very pleased to be adding two very seasoned professionals at such an important time for our industry,” said Donna Harman, President and CEO of AF&PA.

Fuqua brings a broad background to AF&PA, with experience in trade association, governmental and political communications.  He previously served at the American Frozen Foods Institute, the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Republican National Convention in New York City.  Chuck began his career in the press gallery at the U.S. House of Representatives.

Hawkinson has extensive public affairs experience in the corporate, non-profit and association sectors.  He previously served at DDC Advocacy, a strategy, technology and communications firm, Public Affairs Council and the United Way of America.  Brian most recently ran his own company, The Hawkinson Group, which provided issues management and advocacy services.

“Chuck’s particular experience on economic issues will really strengthen our ability to communicate about the impact regulations, policy and legislation have on our member companies and the hundreds of thousands of Americans they employ,” said Harman.  “Brian’s combination of substantive knowledge and public affairs experience will help us better apply the good work our industry is already doing on recycling and fiber recovery to relevant public policy debates.”

Fuqua earned his BA in Mass Communications from West Georgia College in Carrollton, Georgia.  Hawkinson earned his BBA from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and his MBA at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business.
